AfriKids -Tackling child labour and poverty in Ghana
This year IPIN Global has chosen to officially be proud sponsors of a very good cause, AfriKids. We will be raising money for this organisation throughout the year and encouraging our staff to not only donate funds, but also to volunteer their time and expertise to help the charity gain further global awareness.
Jamie Macfarlane from the IPIN Global Capital offices in London, took part in Run to the Beat 10k run on 14th September 2014 to raise money for AfriKids. IPIN Global Capital Managing Director and AfriKids Trustee, Vedrana Riley was overjoyed by the news of Jamie’s sign up and encouraged everyone to "dig deep and give anything they can to help AfriKids".
Vedrana and her team exhibited at the MIPIM UK 2014 Event at London Olympia from 15 - 17 October 2014 where part of the space was dedicated to increasing awareness of AfriKids.
AfriKids is a child rights organisation working to improve life for Ghana’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
- Listen to what the community knows it needs
- Empower them to make the necessary changes themselves
- Ensure absolute sustainability
Their work ranges from the more traditional children’s projects including foster homes, schools and street child centres to more ground breaking initiatives which tackle complex cultural issues including child trafficking, child labour and the spirit child phenomenon.
Rather than spreading their work across a continent or focusing on a single ‘headline’ issue, AfriKids has invested time and resources in making real and fundamental change to the society and economy of one region. By doing this AfriKids has enabled the local people to achieve genuine sustainability.
As well as financing and delivering sustainable child rights projects, AfriKids Ghana owns and runs a number of businesses that generate profits while adding social value in their communities.
These businesses intend to generate funding as well as driving jobs and money into the economy, enabling AfriKids Ghana to operate without dependence on hand-outs.
We also take our responsibilities to our local community seriously and we encourage the IPIN team to get involved in fundraising and volunteering wherever possible, we have a proud history of charitable support on an individual and group basis locally.
