Alternative Investments Tempting Buyers

Alternative investments are becoming increasingly more popular as buyers look to enhance the performance of their portfolios. According to the Indian Economic Times, while stocks and bonds have managed to hold their value well in the past few years, investors are also looking to diversify into real estate, hedge funds, private equity and exchange-traded funds.

The news provider claims that an improving image of the construction sector as well as a leap forward in terms of the transparency of the property market have helped to drive this growth. Property is able to provide buyers with a stable and reliable income along with the possibility of capital appreciation, the article added.

India's residential market has already staged a remarkable turnaround in fortune following the global economic crisis making it an attractive destination for investment. In addition, commercial markets are also expected to post a rapid recovery, something which has been attracting both Indian and foreign investors to the market.

"Since 2007-08, a total foreign direct investment of USD 7.82 billion has been put into housing and real estate in India. Considering an average construction period of three years for properties, this comes to 7.7 per cent of the market value of investment-grade real estate under construction as of the second quarter of 2010," the article explained.
