Investment Expected to Climb in Asia-Pacific in 2011

Commercial investment volumes in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to climb once again this year, overtaking the record USD 145 billion that was transacted in 2010.

This figure was almost double the USD 73 billion in 2009 and exceeded the previous peak of USD 101 billion in 2007.

In terms of locations, China remains the most liquid market in Asia-Pacific and during the final quarter of the year it accounted for 50 per cent of all activity in the region.

DTZ Research has forecast that the total volume of sales over the course of 2011 will reach USD 155 billion. The prediction comes despite rising interest rates in the region being expected to make commercial property investments more challenging.

And researchers have claimed that commercial and industrial sectors are in the recovery cycle which, DTZ says presents attractive asset investment opportunities for institutional investors such as pension funds.

In Asia, purchasing activity was largely driven by domestic investors, accounting for 88 per cent of overall transactional activity.
